Cirque Du Soleil – Kooza Vienna, 10 May 2014

An adrenaline rush of acrobatics in a zany kingdom!

KOOZA tells the story of The Innocent, a melancholy loner in search of his place in the world.

KOOZA is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil: It combines two circus traditions – acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendor and fragility, presented in a colorful mélange that emphasizes bold slapstick humor.

Between strength and fragility, laughter and smiles, turmoil and harmony, KOOZA explores themes of fear, identity, recognition and power. The show is set in an electrifying and exotic visual world full of surprises, thrills, chills, audacity and total involvement.

Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian entertainment company, self-described as a “dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment”. It is the largest theatrical producer in the world.
Koozå is a touring production that premiered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 19, 2007. The show’s music is partly inspired by the music of India. Koozå makes use of a large traveling tower on the stage called a “bataclan”. The bataclan moves over the course of the show and reconfigures the performing space.

This show was directed by David Shiner, who had previously worked as a clown in Cirque du Soleil’s production of Nouvelle Expérience. His experience as a clown and past work with Switzerland’s Circus Knie informed his work on Koozå. The show’s title is derived from a Sanskrit word that means “magical container”. It is also an anagram of the English word “kazoo”.

New Marx Hall
A new part of Vienna is developing: Neu Marx – the new location for media, life sciences and technology.

The current hall dimensions amount to 114 meters wide and 175 meters in length, the maximum building height is 17 meters. Structurally, there is a Rinderhalle of riveted iron truss frame at a distance of 11.70 meters. The roofing consists of resting on the truss rafters with wooden soffit formwork and a sheet metal roofing.

In autumn 2005, a restructuring plan for the refurbishment of the portfolio was developed in close cooperation with the authorities of the city of Vienna and the Federal Monuments Office of the Marx hall.
The restoration of the building forms the basis for the further exploitation of the valuable historical monument. By 2016, Marx Hall is expanded in several phases.
